In pursuing my GAME plan I have learned several things. One is that there are many options when incorporating technology in the classroom. Sometimes I get very overwhelmed with ideas and it is hard for me to choose which one to go with. It is great to have choices though. This means that I can give my students more options to present projects. I have also learned that planning and implementing cannot happen overnight. However, as a teacher, I need to jump in and give it a try. Unless I get my feet wet, I will not get my goals accomplished.
I am still working on all my goals. I feel that to be an effective teacher, we are constantly working on goals. Some need to be continually worked on, while others are met, new ones are obtained. I have not had much progress lately while the craziness of this semester is winding down and me personally still dealing with sickness. I am very optimistic that I have wonderful ideas and opportunities to plan ahead for next semester.
My goals are staying the same with one addition. I am going to set a timeline for myself. Unless I create a deadline to meet for myself, procrastination or some other hindrance might set in. By giving myself an agenda with a time line, I feel as though I can get more accomplished.
I plan on practicing each new area of technology over Christmas break and develop lesson plans that incorporate these advances. As I investigate new programs and/or software, I will create detailed instructions for my students. I feel that once I am more comfortable in my own understanding of the resources, I can better facilitate the learning of not only the technology to my students but also the content area.

Right now, it is very overwhelming to be parents, teachers and students at Walden. We are learning new technologies, new ways to implement technology and creating new lesson plans at a breakneck speed. I sometimes get frustrated that I have learned a cool technology like VoiceThead, but haven’t found the right spot in the curriculum to put it yet.
ReplyDeleteTo make an analogy to our math teaching, as we go through our curriculum, we give students various “tools”. Later we expect them to take all their tools to solve more complex problems.
Walden is doing the same for us. They are giving us lots of tools in a short amount of time. We have many years to keep building with them.
Lisa,I think setting a timelie for yourself is a very wise think to do.Thanks for that idea ; I think I am going to do the same. Another great idea is creating lesson plans to incorporate the new areas of technology, however I believe that will be a task for me seeing that I dont have the time between now and the next school semester. You do have some wonderful ideas and I hope they will turn out the way you intended them to go.
ReplyDeleteNancy,
ReplyDeleteI am thankful for all I have learned at Walden. I did not realize so many options were out here. I am as equally excited about using them, but like you I want to incorporate them in the right spot. I thought about using Voice Thread with students who have trouble with word problems. Create a voice thread to explain a word problem and have students add their thoughts and ideas.
Perform with purpose,
Thanks, I hope that I will be able to do what I would like before next semester. I'm not sure how far I will get, but will give it my best.
Lisa
Lisa,
ReplyDeleteIt's very easy to get caught up in the hectic nature of the holidays, not to mention the everyday stress of getting through your curriculum and maintaining order in the classroom. I find that every time I want to try something new, I have to ask myself, "How long will this take?" Unfortunately, the learning curve that accompanies trying new technologies sometimes discourages me from trying something new. I teach highs school Biology and we have very little wiggle room in terms of time to try new things. I believe as an educator I have to force myself to try these new projects and enrich my classroom environment.
